That's when you can do the same or move through the engine exhausts, taking you through to the mid-point of the map. Once you've done this, you'll also find enemy ships flanking you, using giant trenches in the capital ship. Fortunately, there are some large space rocks and wreckage from the ships around them, letting you take cover and eventually flank them. You'll find enemy missile ships, and they are launching at you. Skip forward a little, and the enemy will make its appearance. Now it was time for the third mission of the campaign, and it was time for Homeworld 3 to show me its most significant new feature so far cover. Eventually, knowing they had lost the day, they jumped into hyperspace and fled. You'll have already been collecting resources, so now it's time to build up some units and take the fight to the main pirate ship. Once the production facility is aboard your mothership, you can produce interceptors. It will make for an excellent tutorial to fully introduce new players to the massive freedom Homeworld offers, far more than general strategy players have experienced before. Here you'll be looking at all angles, using the 3D space found within space. While slowly getting the module from the facility, you'll have swarms of pirates trying to stop you and take what you need. The Kalan Pirates are here and will try and take what they can. Here, you move into position with your mothership. This mission has you recovering a production facility module for your mothership, which will be essential in your future travels, as you will be far out of range of any support. The second mission is essentially a tutorial on how the mothership works and aspects like movement, probes for detection, and the smaller classes of ships you'll have under your control. The game is currently expected to release sometime in Q4 of 2022 and will be developed by a slew of Homeworld founders and devs that helped bring Deserts of Kharak to life.During my hands-on with Homeworld 3, I got to play what will be the second and third levels of the campaign. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see if Homeworld 3 really is the true sequel that Homeworld fans have been waiting for. In this process, they will be further supported by the veterans of Homeworld Remastered Collection at Gearbox Publishing.įurthermore, according to Rob Cunningham, the CEO of Blackbird Interactive (the studio working on the game), Homeworld 3 will “capture the mood and tone of Homeworld and deliver it in an exactly expected and juicy, lovely way.” He then continues by saying, “there will be an extension of the story that’s totally satisfying with some interesting twists and turns, and locations that I think will blow some minds and resonate with existing fans and new fans alike.” Blackbird Interactive takes the helm on development, returning the series to its roots with a gripping continuation of the story, fully 3D combat, and the classic RTS elements you expect. Homeworld 3 will be a true sequel to the legendary space-faring RTS. According to an official press release shared after the reveal: Shares are currently on sale at $500 a pop, and you can head over to the official Fig campaign to invest or pledge right now.Īlong with the announcement, Gearbox Publishing also released an announcement trailer, as well as a developer trailer for the Fig campaign, both of which we’ve included here for easy access. Unlike other crowdfunding websites, Fig allows users to actually invest in the title, which will allow them to be a bit more directly involved (as much as investors are) by doing more than just pledging. What makes this announcement so special, though, is that Gearbox has also created a Fig campaign for it, with the goal of $1, allowing anyone to invest in the game and help bring it to life. Over the weekend, during PAX West, Gearbox announced Homeworld 3, the fifth game in the long-running series originally created by Relic Entertainment and Sierra Studios. If you’ve been hoping for a true follow up to 2003’s Homeworld 2, then you won’t have to wait that much longer.
